kickoff fusion idea and mockup

Hi !
It's my first post to a mailing list so i hope i didn't make any big
mistake...

I don't know if this idea has ever been discussed, but i think it could be
interesting to
mix the kickoff menu with its alternative, the simple menu, in the
applications tab. By doing
this, the favorites and applications tabs could live in the same one.

In fact, i like kickoff, but i'm often lost while browsing the applications
tab, with several
forwards and backwards actions.

So here is a preview (sorry, it's ugly) of what kickoff fusion could be ;)

The problem with cascaded menus is that it requires mouse dexterity, so to
improve
the usabitlity, it could be implemented some 'locks' :

- To lock a category :
click a category ('utilities' for example) and the selection is locked and
categories above and
below won't change, only its subcategory (the child) is available.

- To unlock :
click again but anywhere in the parent panel

Is it clear enough ? :)
And what do you think about it ? :)
