The following forum message was posted by tfry at http://sourceforge.net/projects/rkward/forums/forum/165574/topic/3772649:

Ok, I think these are two issues.

First, there are two input fields. The upper one is for the file-name, the second is used to assign the table a name in R (R supports many tables at once, that\'s why this is needed). The second field should be pre-initialized to \"my.spss.data\". If it\'s red, that is probably because you already have an object by that name. You could check the \"overwrite\"-checkbox, or change the name to \"my.spss.data2\", or something. That \"VAR\"-appearing is an annoying bug, indeed, but it should not prevent you from using the dialog, and it\'s fixed in our development version.

Regarding the upper field, it should be possible to enter the filename, there, manually. To get the button to work, try this: Go to Programs->KDE->System Settings->Advanced->Platform and uncheck \"Use native file dialogs\". Restart RKWard. This is a bug in KDE, which is fixed for KDE 4.5, IIRC.

Does this help?

Regards
Thomas
