Edit (right-click on the menu bar) your menu or start from a terminal alacarte.
Choose a place where you want to have it, click on it on the left menu and then
choose new item. Give the name, give the command rkward, and if you want you
can choose an icon from /usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/48x48/apps. And you are
done. (I have compiled rkward, but I believe that icons should be there).

r-gnome should be a gui for gnome. If it so you have to type in a terminal R
--gui=gnome.
