For the record, for those who have been following this discussion:

The 0.1 problem should be fixed in CVS, and of course in the next release. It 
seems to have been due to a bad setting for LC_NUMERIC being picked up. 
Normally R ignores LC_NUMERIC, as it does not work correctly with localized 
numbers. Probably the setting was imported through the back door via 
ScimInputContextPlugin. RKWard now explicitely sets LC_NUMERIC="C" to work 
against this.
