actually there was some code to do this in KDE 3 times. I broke it while 
rewriting libkdeedu 3 years ago. this is a nice task that would need some 
thought, but is not insanely difficult. Parley would be able to detect and match 
the right languages.
if anyone feels up to writing this and wants help, please ping me (via mail or 
irc).

copy and paste is rather not very good at the moment and more work than 
writing the merge function mentioned above. ideally we would slowly change 
libkdeedu to generate xml for parts of the document (I started doing so for a 
few classes). this would generally make (de)serialization nicer. but I ran 
into some problems and lost motivation, mostly because of the pointers between 
different expression/translation classes.
