Applets - to maintain aspect ratio, or not?

I always thought that plasma would follow the credo of "content follows 
shape/size". The user should be able to resize freely and it's the plasmoid's 
job to deal with the given space, including keeping an aspect-ratio, if it is 
needed.

But if the plasmoid can tell plasma whether it wants to keep the aspect ratio 
or not, I would be fine with it.
