Applets - to maintain aspect ratio, or not?

yes, however guidance should be provided to the user. some shapes are just not
very good and should be avoided.

that leaves us with an even worse situation though: the user can then not
override the applet. if i want a squished clock i should be able to make a
squished clock but i should also be guided towards an optimally shaped clock.
