i'd expect the glow to cast a small shadow. unless, i suppose, that light is 
supposed to be 100% ethereal without any physical source at the center of it? 
if so, i'd again suggest that this is one of those things that is really, 
really not worth the complexity it would bring.

to get every possible effect absolutely 100% perfect (as in "what the artist 
would like it to be with all pixel perfection") we'd trade in 
approachability.

it's a case of mistaken priorities.

if we wish to discuss the API of the svg themes, let's do so. if we wish to 
discuss making themes that would allow dancing bears to juggle contorting 
elves while being underlit by glowing disco balls, let's wait until we have 
the animation and graphical effects frameworks in place (4.2?) which will 
make these discussions a lot more sensible.
