we (the open source desktop) certainly do deal with first impression problems 
and we're actually not the hardest hit by this in the corporate market. (i 
say that based on actual feedback from actual companies doing actual pilots 
=)

the problems are deeper than minor flickers you notice after using it for a 
few minutes or windows that are square. this is why i'm working on plasma, 
btw.
