i've started talking to both nVidia and ATi about this issue, and hopefully
this will result in something useful in the future in both cases. a lot more
discussion and effort needs to go into this, of course. so, we'll see. but
both are putting resources on these issues as we speak, so that's a nice step
forward.
that said, COMPOSITE won't be a requirement for plasma, though it may not look
quite as spiffy w/out it.
that said, you are right that GL+COMPOSITE is a mess right now. the best way
to push fixes for this is to push applications that actually work best when
both are around.

honestly, i find this kind of stuff to be pure wankery and hope we find much
better things to do with our windows than make them see-through or wobble.
even then, it's not something that falls within the concern of plasma itself.
that's for the window and composite manager (and by implication X below that
as you noted in your original email =), so i kind of absolve myself of this
one (i know, the easy way out ;)
