[Owncloud] Upgrading from packages

I perfectly know this process. This page describes diferent procedures
from minor version and major version upgrades. My question is: It's also
aplicable for packages instalations? When I talk about packages I refer
from packages available on [1]

I understand that minor upgrades are suported on packages upgrades, but
are major upgrades algo supported or there is a special procedure on
major upgrades from packages.
