As I noticed in contact with the Chromium issue, also in okular the problem
seems to be most visible at low resolution (or low scaling with the same effect
as less letters per pixel), see the various examples in the Chromium issue...

The effect looks very similar, hence maybe somewhere the same library / code
used? (Just wondering, not knowledge of internals.)
