Sounds good, I miss such a clear answer in the FAQ section.

So if I understand the legacy free mode correctly, it just needs a 
clients that formats the offered data correcty (eg make a calendar out 
of IMAP mails and attachments) depending on existing protocols (mostly 
already implemented in email clients).
Is there any existing project that implement this on Mozilla or a 
cooperation with the calendar team at Mozilla? They need a freely 
available server, because this Project depend on the iCal standard which 
is only implemented for servers by commercial software.

Did someone ask them?
