| it stopped for me when I ran the installation with a german locale. Try
| ifconfig and see if the output is english or not... if not, set
LC_MESSAGES

It worked .... :)
Set LANG=C  LC_MESSAGES=C for user "kolab" ..
It's the utf8 setting in RH8
