I agree .. up to a point.
My DSLR (Minolta 7Hi) is pretty sophisticated, but doesn't have
the mercury switch (?) that would let it record the EXIF orientation.
So any changes I make have to be done after the photo was taken.
Of the two approaches - modifying the image, without data loss,
to the right orientation -- versus inserting an EXIF tag into the
file for orientation -- I prefer the former. Both require a single
command to be run against the image file, but obviously one gives
you more flexibility when using other 'brain dead' software -- say,
something like <img src> tag for example.
