- when i disable "show frame", there still are 2(?)-pixel frames at the 
  top and bottom.
  also, i'd like an option to specify the width of a margin (that is, a 
  black frame) explicitly.
- try pressing "ctrl-s" in midnight commander. that initiates the
  quicksearch as expected, but still the "scroll lock" gets activated.
  also, some escape sequence is sent, that confuses mc.
- app output is delayed some time and drawn in bursts. that might save
  some redraws, but it makes working with midnight commander and other
  text-ui apps a major pita on slower machines.
