Thanks Jack, I'll try those test procedures.  I don't think it's saving 
them somewhere else because it increments the backup each time.

as to the .8~ file. I may have done that wrong. I changed the name of 
the main file from joe.kmy to joe.old.kmy and then renamed the .8~ file 
by taking off the last part, making it joe.kmy


Conversion from Quicken has been a trial. I am about ready to start over 
at 1/1/18 but I'm afraid of Quicken. I still have to periodically verify 
my quicken.com password online and afraid that they will eventually 
invalidate everything not under their new subscription plan. I want to 
have access to all my data.
