[Kmymoney] Question re: investment entries - oops

That's a really old version, although there was a jump from 1.x to 4.x some
time ago. However, although there have been many improvements, let's work
through your problems in the other thread, and use this one to work out
your best way to upgrade. (Ubuntu is known to be somewhat behind on KMM
versions available.)

Personally, your best bet would be to upgrade your Ubuntu. I'm not
sufficiently familiar with their versions, but I suspect 10.04 may even be
out of support. 13.10 has been released, and 12.04 seems to be the current
long term supported version.

There is also a PPA repository (claydoh) which has more recent versions of
KMM for many version of Ubuntu, so that would also be an option for
upgrading.
-------------------------

Doesn't surprise me that it's an old version of KMyMoney for the reason you
give: Ubuntu seems to be behind on updates for many software programs I use.

I am not much of a Geek. I switched to Ubuntu because I became sick and
tired of the problems I was having with my Windows computer (10 minutes to
boot up, strange glitches) and I did not like the closed garden nature of
Apple. I'm a 67-year-old woman who just likes to get things done on the
computer and not spend a lot of time fighting or tinkering with it. I have
been really happy with Ubuntu. I have a System76 Wild Dog desktop. They
installed the OS, so I have personally never installed a Linux OS.

My pattern has always been to get a new computer every five years and with
the new computer a new operating system. It is always a heaven and hell
experience to shift to the new computer and OS. It is heaven to experience
the new look and all the new capabilities of the new OS but hell to have to
back up and transfer (via networking) all the stuff from my old computer to
the new one, learn how to use the new OS, get the email client and wifi and
router up and working, get the passwords working, etc. We are always
promised that upgrading will be no-muss-no-fuss, plug-and-play, easy
schmeasy, but my experience has always been that it is a lengthy, lengthy
process with a lot of bumps and bruises along the way--perhaps because I am
not a Geek. This is why I am still running 10.04. Ubuntu is still
supporting it, thank God. I am hoping they will support it until I get my
next new computer in 2015.

I think the PPA repository may be my best route to get a more up-to-date
version of KMyMoney.

Thanks once again for your superb help!

Jane
