droping the two modes mentioned sounds sane for me, I just dislike the keeping 
of toplevel, as it would be more cool to get IDEA working better together 
with detached views, in my eyes, as toplevel mode (at least if it stays 
similar to the current one) will violate any usability guidelines IMHO, 
having one window only containing the menubar and toolbars. Beside this, 
isn't there some qt limitation concerning actions spanning over the windows?
