The amount of connections is negligable on 1mbit upstream.
So, yes, in your case it shouldn't make much of a difference.
However I have not tried ktorrent yet, and they may in fact have very similar performance.

In my comment, I was comparing to other lib-like implementations, since (at first glance) ktorrent seems to consist more or less of monolithic code (GUI + bittorrent imp.)
