  I need to think about this some more.  The goal is to make the UI very 
consistent and this goes against it.

  Not permanent, prominent.  It stays in a highly-visible location.

  Good point, but still very isolated I think.  I don't really care either 
way.

  True.  Those macos style menus are a pain.  I forgot they even exist.
