Caldera OpenLinux 2.2

I have tried to install Kdeveloper under Caldera OpenLinux 2.2. I had to
download and recompile kdelibs 1.1.2 in order to get round a problem with
libjpeg, libpng and libkimgio. But when I install the new kdelibs 1.1.2 the rest
of the kde desktop stops working. The distributed kdelibs claims to be 1.1.2 as
well. Has anyone else experienced this problem? What can I do about it?
