Cannot compile with debug information

Some people mentioned the problems with "CXXFLAGS=xxxxxx : Command not found",
I had the same a while ago and I figured that it all came from using tcsh as my
login shell. tcsh uses builtin command 'setenv' instead of the above
construction for assigning values to environmental variables, so issuing such a
line causes an error. After changing my login shell to bash everything went
fine. It would be nice though if in the future this behaviour was changed so
that I can get back to my favourite tcsh :)
