Well, that was really just an idea when I downloaded gdb and
found out that Insight linked in the debugger directly. It
was certainly not based on possible shortcomings of the 
terminal interface :-)

Anyway, IIRC Richard said something about the performance of
the jdb interface when he talked about the use of JPDA.
I wonder why it's an issue there but not with gdb.
