That would be my guess too. And I assume that the new headers aren't synced to the actual IMAP folder either (if that's where the message lives in, whether remotely  or locally)? I never saw any evidence of it, anyway. Which you could see as a bug in itself: if the message resides in some server space, any changes you make to it should by synced to the server (if that's what the interface suggests).

The funny thing is that sometimes I see messages resume a non-read status when I apply the filter manually (which I only do after the message shows up as "read"). I have never looked if those are the messages where the header changes worked OK.
