I cannot find that link presently, but I do think that it is a good idea. Could KDEnlive have a "By Hardware" profile section which just duplicates the settings that video geeks would know to work, but others may not?

I believe you are arguing for device-specific kdenlive render
profiles, which I do agree with. I even already made this suggestion
on the Mantis issue about redesigning the render dialog, but now I
wonder if we should just use the existing "Media Players" category for
this. However, I was commenting on the MLT profile which is known as a
Project Setting in kdenlive. Since there is not a whole lot to
differentiate MLT profiles (they only cover resolution, frame rate,
and aspect ratio), I am not sure it makes sense to have a lot of
redundant choices because then the user faces the dilemma of choice
especially once they start looking for differences between "N series"
and "CIF 15 fps" and find nothing. Then, they start to wonder if there
is some hidden difference and become uncomfortable with the lack of
clarity and transparency. I prefer to have a fewer choices where the
differences are obvious when you have to make a choice at the
beginning of the project - at a time when you really just want to get
in and start working.

Also, his choice of CIF for N Series, is not a good choice if you are
using a NTSC source video; something with a vertical resolution of 240
is better as it is an integer divisor of the native resolution. The
export profiles are much better at handling this sort of adaptation.
Choose a Project Setting more closely related to your source material,
and have the export choices default to something more appropriate for
your Project Setting.

Finally, due to recent improvements in 0.7.2, the choice of project
setting does not limit your export choices so much. So, one can choose
a render profile that is quite different from the project setting with
some caveats related to differences in aspect ratio and frame rate.
