Well something isn't configured right. I followed the instructions in the link. My laptop resolution is 1280x800. That's what I have configured for my custom profile. When I render that as AVI DV at 16:9 it looks really bad. So bad that you wouldn't want to watch it. The only one that seems to work is flash. I have to render it at 4000 or better. 

Aren't there simple instructions to set this up? If this really works there should be simple steps to get it working. Either that or people aren't sure how to get it working...

small is a bad description - you talking about file size or
resolution? "doesn't fill the screen" implies resolution. Then, I
question if you are correctly using the custom project setting you
created to match your screen capture resolution. Otherwise, "small"
and "screen" are ambiguous other than to say you did not get what you
expect.

Without having much detail or insight into the problem, sounds like a
bad MLT build to me.
