This is really hard to know : as example, a clip made of an image folder 
of 1600x900 images can't be rendered in realtime on a PentiumM-1733. 
Only resizing them to PAL (768x576) is enough to get speed. I would say 
hardware needs depend on quality needs. I've succesfuly worked on a low 
quality project (320x240)  on a Celeron 333!

SATA is not faster than ATA : the bootleneck is mecanical of harddisks, 
and all of them are fast enough to store 30MB/s (uncompressed HDV)

No multi-core support in kdenlive, except if you want to work while 
rendering : the renderer is a separate thread.

You're right, no GPU is used.

Firewire (IEEE 1394 standard) is only needed to plug a DV cam, this is 
not the only way to use Kdenlive.


Good luck with such information. As example, I would only  say : don't 
expect to work on huge movies with weak hardware ;-)
