Hi all,

I got sucessfull build reports from a few people. Current CVS HEAD is now
piave-0.0.3 . A tarball can be downloaded directly on sourceforge:

 http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=62076

or via:

 http://www.dubitzky.de/piave

Open Bugs:

- When rendering the project to a file, piave will crash if there are gaps
(i.e. empty / black frames) in the timeline.

- Since piave is accessing /dev/dsp directly, there are sometime problems if
  other problems are accessing /dev/dsp.

- After a crash, it takes a conciderable amount of time before the tcp port is
available again and piave starts up successfully.

We are aiming at an initial beta release of the kdenlive/piave combo as soon
as the open bugs are fixed. It would be really great if the few people who
are already trying the stuff could post comments on things that work or don't
work. If it's an obvious bug please add it to the bug tracker on sourceforge
(Category "piave", please):

 http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=add&group_id=62076&atid=499361

Please feel free to also use the other trackes on sourceforge. That way I
won't forget feature or support requests:

The idea for the first beta is to have a system that can be used to cut and
arange clips and export them to a new file. Important features that should
work for everybody are

- compiling/installing :
    - are there systems where the sources don't compile/install?
    - are the instructions (see: INSTALL) correct/clear?
      To many dependencies?

- startup :
remember to 'make install' kdenlive _and_ piave and to set your
KDEDIRS environment variable propperly if you install kdenlive to
    a place other than /usr.

- adding clips to file list:
are duration and other parameters of clips correct?

- adding clips to timeline:
    - can you move / cut clips correctly?
    - is the slider always in sync with the picture?

- playing:
    - is playing smooth? If not, what system do you have? do you have DMA
      enabled with your hdd?

- render:
    - can you export correctly to a raw DV file and view this file with
      kdenlive?

- ...

After we have this very basic set of functions working, we can start on the
things that really make the project interesting ;-)

On the feature-todo-list are:

- effects / transitions
   - as soon as we have this working there will be a lot of fun ;-)
It's less away as you might think ;-)

- other file formats than raw DV
   - ffmpeg / GStreamer / libxine coders ??? Help!

- aRts support
   - Help!

- capture from ieee1394
   - not too far away

- runtime plugin interface
    - add new effects/transitions/codecs at runtime.
not far away, including easy to follow example plugin.

Cheers,
Rolf
