Well, the logical thing would be either for you to try upgrading to 4.5.x,
or me to try downgrading back to earlier 4.4, and see if that changes the
situation or not. A quick-check of my binpkgs suggests that I should have
binary-packaged versions of kdes 4.4.2, .3, .4 and .5, as well as the
4.5.0 I'm still running (I haven't gotten to 4.5.1 yet, I just checked
kdelibs, but it should be representative of the available kde versions as
a whole), so I could in theory package-mask the newer versions and install
the binpkgs for the older versions, without having to recompile.

But realistically, I'm not sure when I'll have the time (it's obviously
going to be somewhat lower priority here than there), as I have a
conference coming up this weekend, and the next 10 days looks pretty full
as well. As mentioned above, I've not even been keeping up with my own
updates, recently. (Tho working that many hours is a good problem to have
for the moment, considering what my budget looked like the last couple
years...)

So I'm afraid it's going to have to be you trying the upgrade...

Or, at least now you know that the problem shouldn't be open-ended;
there's a fix in the pipeline somewhere. Perhaps now, knowing that, the
priority falls enough that you can wait?
