Kubuntu/Ubuntu

In a re-partitioning move I had to re-install ubuntu 8.10 and obviously
something has changed since last time I installed kubuntu desk top.
I did the terminal install went through the entire long loading process,
received the kubuntu display screen, but that is where things changed. Still
gnome desktop, no session options lower left so I am at an impasse.
Please advise
