What's the official status of 3.5.x, anyway?

While there is clearly no way to force volunteers to do anything, this 
does not mean that they should be allowed to do, or not do, whatever 
they want.  There is certainly something to be said for leadership and 
personal responsibility.

The project has become too large to be run by constructive anarchy
