What's the official status of 3.5.x, anyway?

Exactly, so KDE 3 is unmaintained. Don't get mad, but don't say "the
maintainers of those programs decided to spend their time on the KDE 4
version of it or not at all any longer on the program." and then claim
that KDE 3 is still maintained. It is not.

Sure, let's end it here with the truth: KDE 3 is unmaintained. Those
who use it must switch to another desktop. If KDE 4 supports all that
they need, then they can switch to KDE 4. If not, then XFCE and Gnome
are very respectable desktop environments and should be considered.
Some of the boxen are pretty decent as well.
