KDE Space between icons

Hi List,

Is there any way to change the space between icons on the desktop. I 
want to narrow the space between the icons. Google mentioned something 
about DesktopGridSpacing in ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals, but it 
doesn't work for me.
I'm using KDE 3.5.6. - Slackware 11

Any help will be appreciated!.
