DVD and DVD r/w drives reported as not existing

Hi John. You don't say which distro you're using, but check in /etc/group to 
see if there's a cdrom group. If there is make sure you're a member of it. 
The command for this on Debian is. As root. usermod -G cdrom user_name. Also 
you could look in /etc/fstab for you're dvd drive. It will probably show as a 
cdrom drive. Make sure it has an entry "user" in the section that corresponds 
with the entries for the harddrives, marked default, perhaps something like. 
noauto,user,ro . All the best. Nigel.
