konsole woes: mcedit, colors, keys

So I wanted to edit a file on a linux console. said console is invoked by
konsole --type linux --ls.

mcedit: Home, End, F1-F6 are wrong and produce characters.

nano: can't see keyboard shortcuts, should be inverted but are black.
corresponds to terminal's behaviour, when dragging the cursor around, text
turns black instead of getting inverted.

Help?
