problem with cdrom writer will not load a cdrom

I have been using a cd writer for the last 6 months. Two days ago I 
decided to try k3b (I have been using xcdroast). I burned one cd-rw and 
did not like the results so I blanked it - this is with k3b. I have not 
been able to load a cd since even with xcdroast even after reboot. All 
the modules appear to be installed and xcdroast recognizes the drive 
but will not load a cd. I even took the drive out and had it tested at 
the store where I bought it. They said it worked.

What do I need to do next to figure out how to get the drive to work 
again??

I am using Mandrake 9.2 with KDE.

Any help will be greatly appreciated,
