i have this problem. i compiled kde-3.1 (kdebase, kdelibs, and etc.) on my
machine (athlon 1.4 ghz) packaged it as rpms and installed it on another
computer which is a pentium III. whenever i lock my desktop and enter my
password it says "failed". it is the correct password however. i tried
checking it with kcheckpass and it also says the same "authentication failure
for user".

below is my configure options when i built kdebase
#./configure --prefix=/opt/kde-3.1 --disable-debug \
    --disable-dependency-tracking --disable-lametest --with-shadow

what seems to be the problem?
