Choose Spellcheck Language

look in $HOME/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals.  In this file you will find a 
section that looks like this:

[KSpell]
KSpell_Client=0
KSpell_DictFromList=1
KSpell_Dictionary=british
KSpell_Encoding=10
KSpell_NoRootAffix=1
KSpell_RunTogether=1

Note the first two options; try the various values ( 0 and 1 )
