configurable icon spacing for "Line up Icons"?

I'm using KDE 3.0.1.  Is there a way to modify the icon spacing that the
"Line up Icons" command uses?  I find the horizontal spacing to be way
too big for my tastes.  I understand that this functionality existed in
KDE 1.*... it even exists in Windoze.  Am I just looking in the wrong
place?
