Because you have changed your kde install location but are using your old 
config files no doubt.
Rename or delete your home/USERNAME/.kde (or .kde2 on some distros) while at a 
console and then start up kde so it can regenerate its config files. You must 
also ensure that $KDEDIR points to your new location as well.
Check with echo $KDEDIR to see if it is set somewhere or wrongly, if so change 
it at that place or at the end of your /home/USERNAME/.bashrc file where it 
will overide the old setting.
