GhostScript prints, or displays the font the exact size specified in the 
  font file.  It is anti-aliased (if you have that feature enabled 
somewhere) but it is NOT hinted.  You can see this if you display at 1.0 
magnification and use the XMagnifier to look at the display.  Some of 
the vertical lines in the fonts will be anti-aliased.  This does not 
happen when fonts are hinted.

OTOH, when Qt displays a font on the screen, it is hinted according to 
the screen resolution.  This makes the glyphs slightly larger (unless 
the font is monospaced) and, in some cases, makes bolder faces bolder.

IIUC, the only cure for this problem will be Qt-4 and KDE-4.
