To address part of this point specifically:

- if FreeBSD, send mail to groot at kde.org and/or kde at freebsd.org saying "this 
broke, look at it"

That's the approach David Faure takes, and it works reasonably well (I don't 
watch the CI for much, but a suitable prodding will even get me to fix 
things).

PS. Which reminds me, the Qt MySQL driver is not compatible with the "latest" 
MySQL 5 client libraries, which triggers akonadi failures, and I should 
probably try to upstream the fix for that (the fix is, unfortunately, in Qt so 
it's more annoying than just fixing PIM)
