This may be a version difference.  I used to find that really annoying
but recently I see all my folders being updated if I click "Get all
messages" - and I see folders being updated while I read.  I'm using
Thunderbird 10 from Fedora.

IMAP never had a problem with this before KMail 2, and Thunderbird
doesn't now.  This is one of the biggest problems with the current KMail.

IIRC I installed the "Additional columns" plugin to get that - my
display of unread and total messages is the same as I had it in KMail.

I always use the "unread in bold, bracketted, after the folder name"
and find that uses space much more efficiently, both in TB and KMail.

It took a while to get TB customized to my liking, but I can work
happily with it all day now.  You'll notice, though, that my "fixes"
are to make it work the way KMail did :-) so hopefully I'll be back
once the remaining problems are ironed out.
