Could you elaborate?

Ruby 1.9 is not insanely new and has only a few dependencies of which 
only one is unusual (yaml).

I concede that distributions mostly seem to ignore ruby 1.9 for some 
unknown reason and still ship 1.8.

Do you mean the required gems?
