Installing debuginfo packages and attaching gdb to kmail and report the 
backtrace might also be a good idea.

Your data is in files and folders, i.e. if you check the calendar resource 
etc. it only points to a file or folder. So even if you start from scratch, 
you only need to point it to those files/folders again. Akonadi is only a 
cache for your data.
