I'm more and more convinced that this is a version problem.  I have seen all 
this behaviour in the past, but I'm not seeing any of it now.

FWIW, though, ~/.local/share/everything is something to be aware of.  Not only 
will the Akonadi-controlled Kontact use that directory for storage of its 
data, but more and more projects will use it, as it is an ISO standard.
