Has your optimization experience been so different than mine?

In my experience integer calculations on in-memory data are _extremely_
fast, and its things like new/delete, calloc/free inside loops that slow
things down.

I've always liked the resource framework architecture.  The class
hierarchy could be flatter, but the core design is good.  I'm sorry I
did not have enough umph to finish the icaldir spec back in Feb '05--I
still think it's a good answer to this problem, certainly for local
resources and maybe even for remote resources.
