Actually, if it were just for a simply porting to a new kdelibs version, that 
would be my advise, too. However, the issue is that in KDE 4 we are now 
introducing akonadi, which is a completely new paradigm in kdepim. In kde 3 
every resource (or kmail itself) was responsible itself for talking to the 
server, keeping the list of events/contacts/etc., 
loading/saving/caching/syncing them to the server.
In KDE 4, the Akonadi daemon will be a centraliced daemon designed to take 
over much of the work that was so far left to the resources. The resources 
will be backends/plugins to the daemon with quite a different API....

So, I don't think one can easily develop something in kde3 and then quickly 
port over to akonadi.

But then, I might also be wrong, as I haven't really had the time to dig into 
how Akonadi has come along recently.

PS: Why does kmail's "send again" feature not correctly remove the pgp 
signature? Currently it even escapes the "-- " delimiter of the signature...
