Comparing KHTML in Quanta and Konq

KHTML does not do any DNS lookups as far as I know. 

They're done by Konqueror Plugins and by kio_http.

Quanta most likely doesn't use Konqueror Plugins. Can you try uninstalling 
them to see if it makes a big difference?
